Well thats me finished running networking cable in my house. The front bedroom was a lot harder than I thought it would be. The existing cable was run between the new ceiling and the old ceiling then went through wood stud in a single small drill hole, So instead of buying an extra long drill bit I just ran the networking cable next to the cable line. Its not where I wanted the network cables to go but it is now done. All the cables are terminated at sockets in the rooms and RJ45 connector in the basement and are currently plugged into a switch and hub. Each room has 3 Cat 5e cables run to. I didn’t run anything the kitchen. I couldn’t think of a good reason to do it 🙂
So thats one thing to strike off my do list. Things still left.
Do something with the garden.
Do something to route the exhaust fan and the extractor fan in the bathroom to somewhere other than the loft.
Find out why the light outside the backdoor doesn’t work. I looked and couldn’t find anything obvious.
I thinks thats the main things.

Well thats 2 120 Gig Maxtor hard disks tested and the rma generated. I will ship them back on monday. One thing I notice on the second hard disk. The warranty expired in 2006 which is interesting because I thought these drives only had a one year warranty. Not that I am complaining. I didn’t notice when the first one expired. These hard disks are the exactly the same model bought at different times so they came from different batches. Kind of scary that both failed with in a year.

This was a complete success. I downloade enterprise to my laptop and watched it while waiting for files and reports to finish running. This was very cool.

Geek stuff, this Is now installed in my in my tivo. I don’t have any memory so it is just running as a network card at the moment. I want to explore this as well.

I bought a linksys wrt54G V2 today. Look here for information on hacking it. The router is basically a linux box running on single chip with a mips processor and the 54G wireless stuff.

Man am I burnt

I spent yesterday at the kinetic races in baltimore. I followed the race round on my bike from the start at key highway up federal hill. Then onto canton for the first water test. The sculptures had to go into the water round a pier and back up again. The most exciting part was watching the sculpture of a train get caught in the wind and float off towards the police dock. The police boat came and towed the first carriage back to land but the last two carriages got disconnected and floated off on their own till towed back in by a kaiak. Then race to patterson park for the obstacle race over a pit of sand then mud. Then a race back to the museum of industry for the second water test. The sculpture that looks like a black dog freaked out one of the horses you find at the inner harbor for carriage rides and destroyed a few wooden barriers. I had to leave before the end to go to DC. Man am I red. ooops.
